March Meeting Minutes

  1. Welcome
    1. KD Mission Statement:  The King’s Daughters, founding organization of the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, promotes superior pediatric wellness through dedicated volunteerism in partnership with Children’s Health System.
    2. Meeting Quote:

    1. CHKD/King’s Daughters Fun Fact:  Over 12,437 surgeries were performed at CHKD  in 2008 (almost 4% over the year before)
    2. Past Kings Daughters Fun Fact:  Last fiscal year (July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008) King’s Daughters Circle projects raised approximately $290,000.00 from over 60 Circle Project Fundraisers and canister donations.  WAY TO GO!!!
  2. February 5th meeting minutes approved
  3. Treasurer’s Report- $2,017.68
  4. Old business
    1. Run/Walk:  June 13th.  Committee has formed.  If you’d like to join this committee you can find more information at kingsdaughters.org

                                                              i.      Amy Goodove is putting together walkers/runners from our circle for this event. T-shirts will be made for participants.

    1. Tour de Cuisine:  May 31st, Talbot Park, Norfolk.  Committee has formed.  If you’d like to join this committee you can find more information at kingsdaughters.org

                                                              i.      Sue Ellen Teach is in charge of any volunteers from our circle for this event and JoAnne Lindholm  is getting together a group together to attend this event.

    1. The King’s Daughters is always looking for extra hands around the hospital.  If you have time to donate, call the office at 668-7098.  These hours are kept by KD office separately from your Circle volunteer hours.
    2. Canisters – Elise Berkowitz still has canisters available if you’re interested!
  2. Current business
    1. Projects Committee Report

                                                              i.      Annual Dinner: Location will be at Burtons Grill on Sunday, April 26th

1.      Sysco is donating rib eye for this event. Menu will include a glass of wine(red or white), salad, bread,  passed appetizers, rib eye, fish or vegetable lasagna as an entrée, dessert, coffee, soda and or tea.

2.      Tickets are $50/person

3.      Silent auction and raffle

4.      Ability to sell over 150 tickets for this event

5.      This event committee will be meeting on Thursday, March 12th to go over more details

6.      PLEASE start brainstorming possible sponsors, silent auction donations and attendees for this event. It’s only 7 weeks away!!!

                                                            ii.      Jim White Fit For Life Presentation – Wednesday, March 18th  at 6:30PM – Central Library Auditorium

1.      As of 3/4/09 we have sold 50 tickets. Please share this event with friends, family and/or co-workers! Tickets can be purchased online on our website or at the event

2.      Tickets are only $10 and there will be lots of fun stuff being raffled and given away. Plus great health/wellness information!

                                                          iii.      Memories Cookbook

1.      Still in the collection process. We currently have 2 recipes!  

2.      Our goal is to have 5 recipes from each member. Please email your recipes to JoAnne Lindholm at jalindholm@wgnttv.com

                                                           iv.      Motorcycle Rally with BMWMCHR

1.      This project is currently on hold. BMWMCHR has chosen another charity to work with on their event. They chose the Autism Society and Linkhorn Academy.

2.      Still seeking another motorcycle group to co-produce this event. We plan to have the event sometime in October

****Tuesday June 2nd, Joint KD/CHS meeting…this is where we’ll give our annual donation to KD…please try to attend this meeting. ****
